Reflecting elements of tile manufacturer Refin Ceramiche’s innovative design and research programme, Laboratory was inspired by their photographic explorations that fuse art and science.

Designed for the public to interact with by turning machined aluminium knobs, the robotic mechanisms can explore the miniature fresco artworks in 3 dimensions using a digital microscope. The robotics needed to be precise and smooth as any movement is magnified through the lens while also being durable and lightweight. A.R.T designed and fabricated the robotic movements, provided technical consultancy and assisted with installation.
