A neon light installation emulating the sun and its role in creating cosmic phenomena, namely aurora borealis, forming part of A.A. Murakami’s solo show at Pearl Lam gallery.
Photons are excited by an electric field within glass tubes, arranged to form a quadrilateral structure. The relationship between particles of plasma neon gas and electrical voltage is uncovered, producing a muted, hypnotic glow within the enclosures, combining to form the composite piece.
A.R.T devised and built the custom control systems that drive the neon krypton tubes, and created systems to ensure stability, safety and aesthetic consistency, while managing fabrication and installation.
