Photon Gate is a modern artwork concept that combines technology, space and traditional painting processes, inspired by the remarkable use of light favoured by artists like Turner and Thomas Cole.
Working in combination, light and fog create an ephemeral sense of depth and substance to the air immediately in front of the solid surface, creating conceptual paintings where the fabric of our environment is itself an element of the work.
A.R.T created the kinetic motion and haze systems within the piece - a robotic fog machine creating conditions to absorb the light, creating mass and volume. Working also on the artists’ brief for the aesthetic character of the piece, a gradient coloured filter was implemented, which subjects the light to changing hues.
