A light art experience based on pulsing lightning caught in glass tubes, suspended in a vivid blue environment.
ServicesElectronics · Control System · Neon · Fabrication

A.A.Murakami’s vivid replications of lightning are captured in glass tubes and suspended within a deep blue atmosphere, creating a sense of tension and understated power. It requires the technology to exploit imperfections within predictable systems, displaying the erratic behaviour of light created inside krypton neon tubes.

The work was installed in Busan, South Korea for six months in 2023, and was chosen for presentation at Beijing Art and Technology Biennale in 2024.

Daily operation was fully automated with the control unit needing a single switch to start up, automatically cycle a choreographed display throughout the day and shut down the artwork in the evening. A.R.T undertook extensive research and development to help the piece achieve its behavioural and aesthetic impact, created custom power and control systems, and managed the installation.
